Aparna Hegde on Infant Mortality in India- Talk at Godrej | 2019

India's leading urogynecologist Aparna Hegde shared her life story and the steps her foundation has taken to improve the scenario of mother and infant mortality in India as part of the Godrej in 2019.

Dr. Aparna Hegde is India’s leading urogynecologist and pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon. During her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Hegde witnessed how pervasive systemic problems in health systems led to loss of lives that were completely preventable. Unable to tolerate the status quo, Dr. Hegde, in addition to her full-time medical practice, founded ARMMAN, a Mumbai-based nonprofit that creates scalable programs using technology innovatively to impact maternal and child health. ARMMAN currently works in 16 states of the country and its five major programs, including its flagship mMitra program, have impacted the lives of more than 1.9 million women and their children. From January 2019, ARMMAN has taken over the management of two of the largest mhealth programs in the world, Kilkari and Mobile Academy, in a public-private partnership with the Government of India.
