The evening featured Fathima Nizaruddin, Sofia Ashraf, and Mohammad Muneem Nazir who discussed their working processes and the nature of their engagement with the idea of protest. Fathima brought a short theatre performance along with her incredible film Nuclear Hallucinations which is centered on the anti-nuclear struggle against the Kudankulam Atomic Power Project in Tamil Nadu. Sofia Ashraf spoke about her engagement with various movements and also screened her short form videos which are made to spread over social media. Mohammad Muneem performed music and recited poetry from the Valley that brings people together and keeps alive the hope of a brighter future.
Through these discussions, screenings as well as performances, Performing Protest tried to initiate a conversation about how art works together with marches, hunger strikes and other forms of resistance to help create change.
