Feminism and Fashion – Navigating a Knotty Terrain

Lakme Fashion Week, The Ladies Finger and Godrej India Culture Lab were proud to collaborate on a special event ‘Feminism and Fashion – Navigating a Knotty Terrain'.

What are the intersections between feminism and fashion? How does the fashion world change as it becomes more conscious of feminist issues? These are some of hottest questions that are being asked both on and off the ramp in the fashion world today.

Reflecting on these questions were spoken word artist Sharanya Manivannan who began the evening with a poem on expressing yourself through fashion. She later joined the panel discussion that featured Instagram sensation Mallika Dua, craft revivalist Laila Tyabji, fashion powerhouse Anita Dongre and moderator Nisha Susan who founded the feminist website The Ladies Finger. We also showcased work by fashion stylist and blogger Pallavi Datta where she has reimagined strong women characters from Premchand’s writings in the form of a fantastic art exhibit.
