Why do the images that supposedly injure one group of people leave another unaffected? Professor William Mazzarella spoke about these persistent questions vis-à-vis the longer history of film censorship in India, and illustrated how a set of colonial debates around the force and meaning of mass mediated images continues to animate present day controversies over the power, promise and danger of film.

On June 12, a Change Talk - Friday Funda was held with violinist and vocalist Sunita Bhuyan where she broke myths surrounding so called inaccessible music styles. Through this performance cum lecture she spoke about how different genres of music from classical to folk to world are founded on the same universal seven notes. Bhuyan also touched upon Music Therapy, and demonstrated how it can be used as a medium to foster leadership and collaboration.

Art, Health, and the City!

Contemporary art lives largely in galleries and museums, so we are told. Dharavi Biennale 2015, also known as The Alley Galli Biennale, proposes something different. This exhibition in Dharavi, Mumbai, has been in development for two years. It has been organized by SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action), an NGO working to improve the health of women and children in Mumbai’s informal settlements, with support from Wellcome Trust, UK.
