Sharanya Manivannan on Feminism and Fashion

At our Fashion Funda – Feminism and Fashion: Navigating a Knotty Terrain, Author-Poet Sharanya Manivannan shared with us two unpublished excerpts from her essay ‘What I Learnt from Karaikal Ammaiyar and Her Closet of Adornments’. She began with reciting a passage on interlacing her political defiance with fashion, and ended with her piece ‘Poem for Clothes Left in Another Country’, which is an ode to her wardrobe that she left behind when she had to exit Malaysia. This event was in collaboration with Lakmé Fashion Week and The Ladies Finger.
